This weekend we had a DDoS Attack on a client's website. In our opinion the recent changes to the Google search algorithm have added new elements to the social media campaigns of most businesses. One of the most major changes came in the form of additional weight to Pinterest and the presence of a business inside the social media network. With this change many businesses have asked what is Pinterest and why does it matter? Pinterest is a social media community that describes itself as a “tool for collecting and organizing the things you love.” The concept is fairly simple, you create cork boards for different topics such as clothes, recipes, travel or an event then you find images inside of Pinterest that you want to Pin to a board. Then your friends can follow your boards and see the things you like and Re-Pin them if they like them. One of the most popular uses is for planning a wedding…. Read more!
This is a timely post because we had a web page disappear from Google's search results after months of working to move it from Page 10 to Page 2. We have been driving one of our web pages for a very specific keyword for almost three months with pretty good results. Two nights ago as we searched the internet the page we had been driving disappeared. All of our other pages were fine as were the search results we had worked on for them, so began our search for the missing page. The best articles we could find gave a few solutions that were helpful troubleshooting hints: Wait: sometimes search results can just change for no explained reason. Wait a few hours and try again. Determine What is Missing: Try to figure out if the site has been lost from the results or a single page. Do this by searching… Read more!
We recently built the website for the Kulp Law Firm a criminal defense firm located in Charleston, South Carolina. While working on this project we noticed for the first time the weight that Google is now placing on mirrored content as far as penalizing search results. Mirrored content refers to an old search engine optimization trick where a person creates a website, then copies all of the content and places it on a more search friendly URL. In the past the greatest deterrant from doing this was simply the fact that the content would not update across sites so the maintenance was a little more time consuming. However, in the new model of searches and search engine results it appears the technique of gaming the results is becoming highly frowned upon. In fact Google Ad Words will not permit you to run ads to websites containing mirrored content any longer…. Read more!

Today marked the first day an e-vos client indexed in the first non-ad spot on Google. The law firm of Anderson & Schuster www.anderson-schuster.com made it to the top of the search engine rankings and did it with no gimmicks, no expensive SEO campaigns, no ad words, and no search engine games. The law firm made it to the top of the rankings using a well planned and executed social media campaign designed to drive traffic and draw attention to the firm's online presence. The campaign began with a website designed to index well and adapt to a changing search engine algorithm. Generating content which is relevant to a business can sometimes be difficult. In the past blog posts may have required content creation once a month or once a week; however, with social media taking over marketing there is increasing pressure to create new content far more often than once a month or week. The best way to generate content is to have a system for writing and posting which centers around a current marketing theme. Creating content on the fly can work if there is easy access to available content which can be used for posting. However, the downside to generating content on the spot is the potential for disconnected posts. For example, if a company has three products and posts about 2 of them one month then two different ones the next month then people who follow the content streams can become confused… Read more!
Many companies have to fight negative publicity at some point during the course of business. Sometimes a public event can be the source of embarrassment or a public review is critical. Unfortunately, today’s social media has allowed everyone to become a critic and that criticism can cause negative results inside of search engines. The only way to combat negative perception is to generate positive press to counter the bad press. Search engines consider the relevancy of content when ranking pages so newer more timely press can push older press down the search engine results. If the average search engine user only looks at the first two pages of results then current content is the most important. Generating new press can be accomplished two ways both of which are equally important. The first method is an organic approach which involves responding to the criticism and… Read more!
